Sermon on the Mount
Questions from Sunday 20 November
Blessed are those who are persecuted ...
Matt 5:10-12
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. (Matt 5:10-12)
The aim of these questions is that we would consider the Sunday teaching in more detail, taking time to explore God’s Word further and seeing how it applies to our lives and the lives of those around us.
Persecution (Definition): to oppress, harass or maltreat, especially because of race or religion.
- Have you ever experienced persecution for any reason?
- If so, how did you feel and react?
- In what ways, if any, do you see persecution against Christians in our own country and society?
- In many countries of this world Christians expect to be persecuted for their faith. Do you expect to be persecuted?
- How do you feel when Jesus talks about rejoicing and being glad when we are persecuted?
- Do you think it is possible to react like that to persecution and if so, how?
- Take time this week to meditate on the words of Paul in Phil 3:7-14. and to consider your own walk with God.
