Questions from Sunday 27 November
The Vocal Gifts
The aim of these questions is that we would consider the Sunday teaching in more detail, taking time to explore God’s Word further and seeing how it applies to our lives and the lives of those around us.
- The Corinthians were infatuated with tongues and had to be corrected. Does that sound anything like us? What is our personal experience of the gifts of tongues and interpretation (either participating or observing)?
- The outcome of the gift of prophecy according to 1 Cor 14:3 is edification, exhortation and consolation (NAS). What three words are used in other translations that we may have to hand?
- What are the results of prophecy according to 1 Cor 14:31?
- “The goal of the Gifts of the Spirit is to edify the Church.” Thus prophecy is preferred to tongues (see 1 Cor 14:5). However, look at the first phrase of 1 Cor 14:4. What challenge does this give each of us as individuals?
- Some Christians would prefer to leave Gifts of the Spirit to others! However, re-read 1 Cor 14:1. How we respond to this challenge?
